“My son, age 11, has been struggling with anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and misophonia for a couple years now. Therapies we have previously tried include CBT, ERP, medication, and counseling. It has been a long and difficult road for the entire family. He has had a near constant baseline of irritability and low self-esteem. We chose NeurOptimal for him because it was a safe, non-invasive treatment. During a one-month period, he did 16 sessions. Although he was never eager to sit down for a session, we tried to make it appealing for him with a favorite book and the dog at his feet or on really hard days, the iPad. He resists many of our requests, even if it is something he eventually enjoys like a hike or other fun outing, so we were not surprised. After several minutes, I would look in and see him very relaxed with his feet up and his shoulders softened. On the day of the brain training sessions, he would be much calmer and easier to talk to. At the end of all those sessions, he seemed to have had a break through of some sort with his counselor. In the last 2 weeks, he has been much happier than I’ve seen him in quite a while. He still has difficulty listening. His triggers are all still active, however, he is much less dramatic and heated when responding. The intensity seems to have been dialed down across the board. He also has been much more receptive to discussing his fears and trouble spots. We still have a way to go but I am grateful for NeurOptimal for making every day a little easier.”
